I wanted to know how i install windows xp from a disc using dos. My bosses computer has windows 98 but it will no longer boot up for him. I would like to learn how to fix his computer with this disc. The disc is a cracked version of windows xp.
First off, you have the wrong forum; second, I can't tell you how a "cracked" version of XP will install on a computer. However, if you had a legal copy, all you would need to do is boot the computer with the CD. The CD would start the install; sometimes it displays a message telling you to "press a key to boot from cd..." at that point you would need to press a key to start the install.
If the CD doesn't boot or you're sure the computer doesn't support booting from a CD, then you would need to create a series of boot disks on floppies to boot into the setup. The files needed to create these boot disks can be found on Microsoft's website.
WARNING: I do not recommend installing a cracked version of XP, you are bound to have more problems than it's worth, it could have a virus on it and the fine for pirated Microsoft software is astounding!
