Hi,

I am redesigning a db. I am wrtiing up a spec and it's seems a waste of time to re-write all the field names in design view into a excell speadsheet. Is there any way that I can go into the design view of the table select the rows and copy into to excell or there another way I can do this easily or do I manually have to type up my new table designs.
Cheers Rachel.

Have you tried to transfer to excel an empty rowset with fieldnames ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

Why didn't I think of that. I can then do edit paste special and transpose this should give me the field names but I still havenoty got the datatype and Description.

The quick way of getting the fieldnames out would be to export the table(s) as spreadsheets! If you need the properties you'll need to write VBA code I'm afraid.

Incidentally not many people realise that you can do the same in reverse. Copy the line of an Excel spreadsheet that contains the headers, then open the receiving Access database on the Table tab. Paste and answer Yes to "Does the first row of your data contain headings?". OK so you have to rename the table but when you open it .... Robert is your uncle!
I've used this a number of times when designing dbs for other people with no db knowledge. Together we create the required fields in row order (could be Word - then put it into Excel), transpose the rows to columns and then do as above.
