I've got a Compaq 5726 with Norwegian Windows 98 (SE)on it. In My computer the "Copy disk" is missing when i rightklick on the floppy drive.

MS Technet got ONE (1) hit on this problem and the solution is to replace the diskcopy.dll. I've done that but no solution. I've also replased the floppycontroller driveres, and the floppy drivers. All the new drivers was coied from a computer with copy disk in place.

Please help me, it's a problem that I have to solve ASAP.

Torgeir Rye
System consultant.

My brother-in-law just called me with this exact problem on his Win98 SE system. My Win98 SE system doesn't have this problem.

When I right-click my A: drive, my context menu lists the following choices:

 Explore
 Open
 Find...
 Copy Disk...
 Scan with Norton AntiVirus
 Add to Zip
 Format
 Paste
 Create Shortcut
 Properties

His menu is the same except that "Copy Disk..." is missing and in it's place he has "Sharing".

The Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q154925 explains this problem under Win95, but not Win98 SE. I tried extracting the original DISKCOPY.DLL file from WIN98_28.CAB to the C:\Windows\System directory and then rebooting, but it didn't fix anything.

ANY IDEAS?????

This is just a temporary fix. If you really want this option available to you, you can create a shorcut command that does the same thing, minus the fancy Win98 interface. Go to the desktop,right-click to create a shortcut and link it to 'c:\<your windows directory here>\command\diskcopy.exe'. Choose whatever nifty icon you want and presto! The same elusive 'Copy Disk...' command at your fingertips.

And if you find that to be too much work, I've included my <a href=<A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> >'diskcopy.dll' for you. Use this link, my first two attempts at giving you access failed. If you get an 'Unauthorized Access' message, <a href=mailto:m.ventour@mailcity.com >contact me and I'll upload the files to a Driveway account for you to download it from. I can also upload any other dlls you see the need for in this account, just contact me first.

I already know how to use the Win98 DOS "diskcopy.com" program. I'm just trying to fix the Windows option for copying a disk.

I've also already tried copying in a new diskcopy.dll file. Unfortunately, that hasn't fixed the problem either. "Copy Disk..." is still missing from his context menu.

I had This Problem. It Was Down To One Of Two Things It Was Either A Virus Namley win95.cih which i had which i had to clear from dos making sure i scaned all files as it was hiding in a dat file or the fact that i ran fdisk/mbr as i did both of these things before the restart i do not know which one cracked it but it did and now is aok :)
Tim Dodgson
t_dodgson@yahoo.com
<a href=
Hi

I´ve got a fix for this problem. You got to make a .reg file with this text in it:
(Do not add the Start and End line)
***** Start *****

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{59099400-57FF-11CE-BD94-0020AF85B590}]
@="Disk Copy Extension"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{59099400-57FF-11CE-BD94-0020AF85B590}\InProcServer32]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\diskcopy.dll"
"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"

***** End *****

I got this fix from Compaq.

Torgeir Rye
System Consultant
Sorry, I forgott to tell you to run the .reg file. Make the file in notepad and remeber to change the fileextation to .reg.

You probably knew this, but maybe someone don´t.

Torgeir Rye
