Does anybody know a tool which will copy both the directory and the share whch is allocated to that directory to another drive.

I know of scopy and permcopy in the NT 4 reskits but these do nocreate the share for me just mearly copy the directorys and permission as far as i know.

Any help appreciated,

Mark

Hi,
Hyena can copy shares and folders including permissions, but i never tried this feature.
To edit your shares-information you can export the registry-key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\Shares" with REGEDT32 not with regedit. Then simply edit the file with find/replace and import it back, and you are done.

There is a program available called SecureCopy, which can be downloaded from SmallWonders.com. I think the trial version will allow you to setup up to 10 servers. You can copy NT file permissions, shares as well as and files & folders, depending on the options you set.

This is a much easier option than trying to combine robocopy/Xcopy with Registry entries etc.

Cheers,
Sam

Thanks for the info, looked at the SecureCopy, looks good if you are transfering files to a new server. Unfortuantley i am transferring files from one drive to another in the same server.

I will have a look at Henya as well though before i move on.

I like the idea of the registry editing, i think i may give that a go.

Thanks again.

Once i have altered the Registry file how do i import it back in.

If i click restore does it restore the whole tree or just the file i select ?
