I have just received a new PIX515e-r, I would like to copy the old config from my existing PIX1000 to the new PIX515. I currently have my laptop connected to the new PIX via the console port, I am connected to the old PIX via the LAN.

I have a TFTP server running on my laptop which I have written the old config to, I now need to copy this to the new PIX over the console connection, is this possible? If so how?

Is my config going to cause problems due to different hardware/IOS versions?

Many thanks
Ian.

I usually just copy the config and paste into notepad or something and then paste it back in! It's fast and easy.

Chris.

Any idea how to enter a new activation key that I have been sent by CISCO?

On the 515, you reboot the PIX and break into monitor mode. (ESC during boot). You then have to TFTP a new Image onto the pix. IT can be the same OS ver or newer. It will then prompt you if you want to enter a new activation key after it's done flashing.

On the subject of the Activation key, I though I could TFTP the image from the new PIX515 onto my TFTP server which I have done successfuly, I then though I would be able to TFTP it back from monitor mode and then enter the new activation key as you mention.

I get the following error message when trying to TFTP the config back to the PIX515;
BAD MAGIC NUMBER (0x16a5301).

Any Ideas
