Hi:

I have the exact same problem as found in thread751-1171721.

I am working on a home built system based om an MSI K8 MB which has an Nvidia 430 chipset to manage the raid.

I installed two WD1600JS Sata drives and configured them in the bios as a mirror array.

I want to transfer the contents of a 160 gig ide HD that is currently running with 3 partitions.

I also have a Ghost 3 floppy but I can't make it copy to the mirrored array.

what I want to end up with is a bootable mirroed drive that is the duplicate of my current C: drive

I understand that "carpediem79" has achieved this result with the help of"rvnguy"

my question is : what steps did you take to do this??

or how can it be done

If you are trying to use Ghost version 3 then that is most likely to be your problem. That version of Ghost is very old & may not be recognising the SATA drives correctly if at all.
This version of Norton Ghost was released in 1997.
I am sorry if I have missread anything here, but that is how I see it. Please correct me if I am wrong

Thank you kestrel1, I'm sure you are correct.
perhaps you have a suggestion of how to do this.

How about a newer version of ghost or maybe Acronis True Image. I have used Acronis & it seems very good, never tried it on a SATA system yet though, but I would imagine it would work.

True Image will certainly do this - but what about the drive manufacturer for your new SATA drives - most have a free cloning utility on their website to enable this sort of procedure, and I'd expect it work with SATA.

You do realise you'll almost certainly have to run a repair reinstall on XP after the transfer, as it won't have the correct RAID drivers installed to enable it to boot. You'll need said drivers on a floppy and press F6 near start of install process. Make sure the original drive is disconnected before you do this (ie, don't boot the machine with both IDE and RAID connected until you've sorted out the RAID installation):-

Thanks wolluf.

I figured it would be something simple.. I had gotten myself into how hard it was going to be..

I downloaded western digitals software and it should be a snap to break the mirror, do a disk to disk copy, then re make the array.

never to old to learn, will do this, this weekend.

thanks
