I have my default font set as Times New Roman and color black. When I copy and paste something into PageMaker that happens to be in a different font, from then on, that new font seems to be my default. For example, I copied and pasted something that was Arial font and had red color. Now every time I start to type, it is always red Arial, even though the default is still set as Times New Roman. How do I fix this?

Open PM but before opening any PM document, go to Type>Character and set the features you want in your default font. Every document you create from now on will have the default font, but you will need to go back and manually change earlier documents.

Re your statement "When I copy and paste something into PageMaker..." - do you mean from another PM document, or from something else like MS Word? If the latter, you are asking for trouble. It is better to save your Word doc as RTF (or even TXT) and then use File>Place to bring it into PM. You should also immediately UNLINK it in the Links Manager (the text automatically embeds anyway) so that if you make changes to the text within PM, it doesn't keep hassling you next time you open the PM file about updating the link back to the Word doc (which is more than likely not the same as what is in the PM doc).

Thank you for your help. It is not necessarily a Word document. It is when I copy and paste from anywhere...my email or anything. I am the editor of a newsletter and get articles from many sources. I have passed on the position of editor to another person and gave him my last newsletter as a guide to get going. He's now having problems with the arial font and red color. No matter where in the newsletter you put your cursor to type, it is arial red. Even after changing the font and color of the original article that caused this. I've had this problem many times. I'll give your suggestion a try and see what happens.

Re: It is when I copy and paste from anywhere...my email or anything.

I would strongly suggest you do not copy and paste directly into PM.

Easiest and best thing to do is copy and paste into Notepad - then you KNOW you are not going to get any strange formatting, as NP is pure unformatted text. Then you can copy/paste from NP to PM where you can apply your styles and have consistency throughout the newsletter. But make sure before you start any new PM docs that you have reset the default font as described previously.
