I need to copy an access report format from one computer to another without copying the total database. I am trying to prevent having to recreate a long established report that is currently on my bosses computer that he wants me to send out. We have tried export but that only products an Excel spreadsheet, copy and paste. Copying the total database is not practical since we use different queries from the same basic tables and he has information that he does not want me to have.

Does anyone have an solution to this problem?

Thanks for the help. This is the best tech help anywhere.

You wish to copy the data that creates this report, but not any other data, is that correct? Have you tried exporting data from the query or sql statement the report is based on?

We tried the export function but that only produced a report in results not the report formate. We both have the copies of the same database tables and queries that the report is based on we wanted to save the time of recreating the report.

From the target MDB, you can select File->Get External Data->Import to find the source MDB and import the report. This will only pull in the report design and not the data or any queries (unless you specify them).

That will require that both computers be able to share through the network. We will give that a try.

Thank you for the information

Can't you also just make a snapshot of it?

I suppose it depends on what you need to do with this report once you get it... (The snapshot really is just like a Report, though.)

Voyager48,
You could create a new, blank mdb and import the report into it. Then copy the mdb file where ever you want and import the report into the target mdb.

Taking a snapshot of the report does not provide the detail of selection I need.

dhookom, the blank mdb idea sounds promising. I do like idea of external date import. I will try both. Thanks.
