Hi all,

This sounds like it should be simple but I'm having a hard time accomplishing the task.

I have a telephone call database that has incoming and outgoing fields. Each record has either the extension number "9123" or "****" depending if the call came in or out of the system. I would like to create a new field and copy the extension number to that field so that the field only contains an extension number. Confusing? Say like an incoming call goes to extension "9123". The record would contain "9123" in the incoming field and "****" in the outgoing. On another record, a call goes out of "9123" so the incoming field contains "****" and the outgoing field contains "9123". I would like to create a new field that only has the extension number regardless of whether it came in or out.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Why don't you do that with a QUERY?

Thanks for responding Skip. The update query was the approach I was taking but what do you put in the 'update to' field? I want the contents of another to be placed in the field and I couldn't find a way to indicate that.

My point is, why update at all. The field is redundant!
