It's been over 7 years since I worked in 5.1 but I recall one of the issues we had was that we couldn't make our columns add in WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows--a function we had used frequently with WordPerfect 5.0 and 5.1. If I recall, some of the functionality of columns was done away with and you have to use tables in order to get that functionality. The selection of specific columns may be one of them.
