I have one Vista Business x64 system here that has problems copying files to one particular Windows 2000 Server file server. The transfer speed is horrible (k/sec instead of meg/sec) when this station copies files TO the server, but copying FROM the server runs at full speed. This symptom persists consistently. No one else has a problem copying to/from this server, and this station has no problem copying to/from any other server. Further, the symptom persists whether copying from the C: drive or from a network drive. And to top it all off, if I log onto the server console and browse the Vista computer, I can copy files from Vista to 2000 at full speed. Frankly, I don't even know where to start with this one. The Vista system is not running SP1.

Is there any reason why you have not installed SP1, as some of the fixes coming from that were specifically targeted at slow file copying?

Before SP1, there were released several Vista compatibility fixes including -

An update is available that improves the compatibility and reliability of Windows Vista

An update is available that improves the performance and reliability of Windows Vista

Do you at least have the above installed?

Here is one (in reverse) for what it is worth.

The copy process may stop responding when you try to copy files from a server on a network to a Windows Vista-based computer

Have you checked for any errors in the Event Viewer?
