I have build my own forum in php mysql, it works great under opera but with IE I have a strange problem. for the username and id I place a cookie when a user logons. sometimes after submitting a post in IE the cookie is apparently deleted. and there is no code whatsoever which refers to cookies in the submit script. with netscape an opera I have never experienced this problem. does anyone know what is going on ?????

Yeah, it's Microsoft. 
Seriously, check the browser settings, if a user's browser is set to not retain cookies, then the cookies will be deleted. Also check the expiration. The cookie may be expiring after the page.
Other than those two main culprits, it will probably be that you'll have to dig around in browser settings...
