Converting to MPEG in Premiere

We're trying to convert our videos to MPEG, and I know Premiere doesn't have much support for that but it has been exporting them fine.
EXCEPT...When we play the MPEG, it gets about halfway through and gets very choppy, the video won't sync up to the sound.
Has anyone else had this problem before? Any solutions? I know there's better conversion software out there but we haven't got time to order anything and would really like to get it working through Premiere.

I dont know if you have tried out virtual dub or not but it works pretty good with writing mpeg and so does tmpg. You can find these just by searching for them on yahoo. Hope this helps you!
