Converting Spreads into Single Pages

I'm currently working with a company that designs in spread layouts and then has to separate each spread into single page elements and add bleed to the gutter. Apparently, this is a request from their digital printer. When the document is exported as a single paged PDF the bleed from the right hand page appears in the bleed area of the left hand page.

Is there an automated process or plugin that will separate a spread layout (two pages butting at the gutter) into single pages within InDesign? Or is there a processing trick in the PDF conversion that I'm unaware of.

We're working in a Mac environment with the latest version of InDesign CS2. I'm unsure of the type of digital printer used in the final output.

Any ideas/info would be helpful.

Regards.

That's a problem.

Open a doc or create a new, multi page one and look at file menu/document setup. If you click the facing pages box you'll see that the bleed setting mentions inside - outside. If you uncheck the facing pages you'll see that bleed settings change to right - left.

I assume that you're Printing the pdf (as opposed to direct export)or going postscript and not checking "spreads: in the general pane of the print window to get the single page pdfs. Theoretically this should confuse things btween inside-outside and right-left.

You might try going to document setup in ID and unchecking facing pages. Then export the pdf and see if that helps. Also, make sure that you check "use document bledd settings in the Marks-Bleeds pane of teh export or print window.
