Good Day,

I have 2 questions based on the Progress database.

1. We are currently using version 8.3 but there seems to be a problem recognising the date 2010. As such, although we can enter data into the database no reports for the corresponding period of 2010 can be generated. can this be corrected?

2. I have been reading an old post regarding conversion of the progress database to MS Access. (i made reference to the relevant page below) I was able to carry out the instructions in the 1st paragraph ok and open the Progress Administration tool and connect to the progress database. however, the option for data server and odbc util are greyed out and i cant access. please help.....

If I remember correctly, there is a Progress parameter that was a Y2K work-around. It was supposed to be set for two-digit years, deciding whether YY meant 19YY or 20YY. I think it gave you a sliding window onto the timeline. Anyway, I'll bet when the year 2000 drew near, somebody set the parameter to top-out at 2010. Now that it is 2010, you're going to have to advance it arbitrarily.

Re your date problem, look in Progress startup commands for a '-yy' parameter. Be aware that a '-pf' parameter if present points to a parameter 'include' file.

Re your Data Server and ODBC being greyed out, could be a licensing issue, do you have a full development license?

Thanks MadMichael

I checked the file and discovered this
-yy = 1910 (can i change this??)

and to your second question, no i dont think so (about the development license)

Re date: Yes, you can edit the startup script as needed, it's just a text file.

Something else to consider re your date problem: any data-entry for 2010 where the date entry field has a two-digit year would have been entered into the system as '1910' if the session was started with the '-yy 1910' parameter.

yeah, someone told me something similar to this earlier. I changed it to '-yy 1920' and was able to enter data correctly for 2010. but as my data from jan to this date is all recorded as 1910 it seems that i cannot generate a report for it since my date is looking at just the last 2 digits...argh!!!
