Can anyone tell me how to convert a photo to a sketch? I tried the tip in FAQ but output did'nt look like a sketch, just a greyscale image.

Hi,

Which FAQ did you try. I'm assuming it was mine b/c you said the end result was just a grayscale image. There is another one by FUNKYMONK that you might be interested in, and would something like this do the trick:

-OPEN IMAGE
-SELECT ALL, COPY, MAKE NEW DOCUMENT, PASTE
-FILTER-->OTHER-->HIGH PASS
-IMAGE-->ADJUSTMENTS-->AUTO LEVELS (Shift+Ctrl+L)
-IMAGE-->ADJUSTMENTS-->BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST (brightness to -15, and contrast to +15)

Then if you want you can add:
-FILTER-->ARTISTIC-->DRY BRUSH

Hope this helps and is more what you are looking for! :) NATE

Try this
create a copy of the background layer(the photo) invert it(image>adjust>invert).
convert to grayscale(image>mode>grayscale)- choose NOT to flatten.
set the layer mode to colour dodge- the image will look white at this moment dont worry.
next apply the gaussian blur filter that comes with PShop(Filter>Blur>Gaussian) set the radius to approx 1,5 and 5,0 pixels.
the image will look like a pencil sketch, adjusting the radius higher will give it the look of a pastel sketch.
Play around with it.

barehug,

What you wrote is a bit more detailed version of my FAQ.
FAQ229-1864

But juzzo66 said that he/she already tried that and didn't like the results because it "did'nt look like a sketch, just a greyscale image."

juzzo66,

Did you try that other method I posted, was that better. Also to add to my FAQ. You can if you wish exclude one of those steps. Exclude the part where you convert to greyscale and continue with the other steps. That will give you a color sketch, but the colors might not be quite what you are looking for. If not goto IMAGE|ADJUSTMENTS|HUE/SATURATION (Ctrl+U) and change the master hue using the slider.

Hope this helps! NATE

Sorry Spyderix, haven't read any of the faq's. Didn't mean to steal your thunder!

Thanks SpyderIX and barehug. I tried both options and they worked well.
