How can one convert an mp3 file into a wav file so it can be burned to a CD for playing in my car

Windows media player converts mp3 files to wav files as wave files to mp3 files! It is a quick no hassle way and you dont have to install other programs on your comp!

I'm with noobx on this one, the new burning facilities in Windows Media Player 10 are among the best I have used.

Failing that most burning software has facilities to create "Music CD's", Nero and Roxio are prime examples.

However WMP10 is free!

Windows Media Player is proabley the most convient way to go but you could take a look at MusicMatch Player software, I have found it to be easy to use as well

Before I'd go through the conversion stuff I'd try to use the burning software you have to do it. Normally even "butt" software has an option to "make music cd" and upon choosing that it takes the mp3s and turns them to waves. You'll know it's doing it by looking at how much room each song is taking. A rough estimate is that wavs take about 10x more space. (5mb mp3 could be a 50mb wav)

Yeah you dont have to convert to wav before burning a cd with most programs. Usually you can create an audio cd and simply drag mp3's to the compilation and they will be converted on the fly.

If you do want to convert to wav, I use winamp. If you go to preferences, and then output, you can select DiskWriter. This will write songs to disk instead of outputting to your speakers. If you hit the configure button, you can designate which folder the wav's will go to.
