Hi there,

I have database containing only tables, running in MSAccess97. I remember that about 2 years I converted it in a MSAccess 2000 database without problems. Recently someone put a workgroup file on the database, and now it can't be converted anymore: I get the error message: the current user doesn't have permission to convert or enable this database. However, the useraccount I use to try to make the conversion has full rights on all tables, including admin right. Does anyone know how I can convert this database? Whether I use a desktop shortcut or open the database from the explorer, I always getting the logon box. Is it possible to get the workgroup out?

Thanks

I believe the user must be the Owner in order to convert a database. If you have full administrator rights, try changing the owner to your userID.

Do you mean the Workgroup account? Because the workgroup account I sign in with is the account which also owns all tables in the db...

It is an account which I gave all possible rights on all objects. I'm wondering, I always get an error message indicating that the account should have open/run and open exclusive permissions on the database. The open exclusive you can assign in the Tools -> Options -> Advanced window, but the open/run option I can't find anywhere. Could that maybe be the problem? Is it possible that there is some kind of startup option?

Both Open exclusive and Open/run should be available in User and Group Permissions in the Security option under Tools. Click the Permissions tab to check or set permissions. You should see the Open Exclusive and Open/Run checkboxes if you select Database as the object type. Next, click the Change Owner tab. Make sure the Object Type selected is Database. Then make sure your admin user is the owner.

Hi Molaker, thanks for the tip, now I'm getting somewhere. I completely overlooked the database object in object dropdown box under permissions, I thought that the 'Open Exclusive' option mentioned in the error message was about the option tools --> options --> advanced in the Access menu, but now I see what the error message is about. Unfortunately I still can't convert, because I can't change the owner of the database (the button is always disabled), so now I'm going to make the current owner (being the creator of the db about seven years ago) owner of all the objects, and give him all the rights on all objects also, and make him member of all possible groups. That should work I hope.

Hi Molaker and gransbpa (let's have a beer after work my friend): it worked: We were able to convert the database! Thanks!!
