Hello. I posted here a week or so ago and I mentioned in passing that I was going to try to use my laptop hdd in my desktop. I'm now trying to do that and I've run into some interesting issues. My setup is as follows: motherboard; ATA100 cable, an ibm hdd on the end of the cable. This is my regular setup and it boots fine. when I put the new hdd in teh middle the computer does not load the OS the bios shows only the laptop hdd on the channel as teh primary, and does not recognize the ibm drive at all. If I put the the laptop hdd on teh channel alone in either position the bios doesn't recognize any device on either channels 1 or 2. The way I have the laptop drive connected is it's in a bay and I bought a 2.5" to 3.5" ide converter off of ebay, it's a pin to pin converter with a 2-prong molex tail connected to the far right pins on the converter but only going into the 2.5 connector. this fits the pins on the back of my laptop drive but there are four other pins adjecent to the ide channel and they have no explanation, I assume that these are perhaps the master/slave control, and that that's what I need to fix but I can't see how to change them, there's no jumper. Anyway, sorry this so long, any help you can give would be very appreciated.

So, to update. The pins that I didn't know about are the jumpers and I have it set to be the slave on teh channel but it's still not being recognized, more than that though it's preventing the other drive from being recognized too. it's in the middle of the cable again, is this the problem?

Shouldn't matter where it is connected.
Have you looked on the web for the drive specs and pinouts? Ed Fair
