Hi all,

I have been tasked with creating PDF files to send out to clients, we currently create html files which we embed within the email body but would like to send proper PDF files as attachments.

After some advice, has anyone used some good/easy third party software to aid in the same task?

What is the best approach for this??

Cheers

it works on my machine, so technically i win!

You could use PDF Creator from pdfforge.org. Output your content to a file, then use the command line parameters of PDF Creator to print the file to a PDF. Here's a link to the PDF Creator command line parameters. You would probably want to use the /PF parameter:

I'd also recommend to take a look at PD4ML pdf generating library at It works with lots of programming languages, and supports many features. Take a look at the examples at the site.

What format is the source file? or is HTML your source?

After going through many options, (including PDF printer with api calls to confirm print!!!) i went with tim8w's suggestion of pdfsharp.

Very, very easy to use, full control over page, can programatically create multiple pages, footers and headers (all manually created).... also took me only half the time i'd allocated to the task, and that was only being over picky on layouts!! lovely shape overlaying!

No installation, just a reference library, very impressed, thank you for pointing it out.
