Hi PC gurus -

I have a 60GB FAT32 drive with my Windows 2000 system.

I'm planning to use the convert utility to switch to the NT File System.

I just have 1 question. I have an older computer (FAT32, Win95B) that I will need to copy some files from later, over to my Windows 2000 computer. Will I run into problems
when I try to copy FAT32 folders/files to a hard drkive that is NTFS ? (I'll probably use a tool such as FastLynx to perform the copy via a parallel connection.)

So, is it possible to copy FAT32 data to an NTFS drive?

Thanks for your opinions. John

Shouldn't be a problem. Windows 2000 can read either file system, even though the software should make that not be an issue. I wouldn't expect any problems.

Osuma is correct. You will not run into any problems with Win2K "seeing" the Win95 system. FastLynx will do all that you need. James Collins

Both of you guys are right, no problem with file transmission. I recommend that you dont convert your whole drive to NTFS. Why? NTFS partitions cannot be accessed from DOS, therefore you cannot restore files from this
HD if the system becomes corrupt.

My recommendation is to create around an 8 gig NTFS partition for the OS to sit on, because 2000 is made for such a file system and runs much smoother on such. And then format the other partition for your data storage. Then if your system becomes corrupt you can boot into DOS and retrieve any files that you may need to.

I'm new to this so please bear with me. I have Windonws ME as my OS and now want to upgrade to Windows XP. Any advice please

4Biggs - You've posted a question into a discussion thread that I started. My topic deals with converting FAT32 hard drives to NTFS.

You will be more likely to get the advice you need by posting your question into the appropriate forum.....
click 'Forum List' --> scroll down to Desktop Software/Operating Systems - you'll find forums for WinME and XP there.

(I like your idea of replacing Win ME)
