Hello all,

Just some advice, pointers, warnings.....

1. I am going to start converting crystal reports from v7 to v11 and want to know if there are going to be any changes/problems I will encounter be it fields, formatting, data and so on? The Database is Oracle.

2. Do you think the best approach is to have 2 PC's with each version on for comparison?

Thanks for you help in advance.

I believe that both versions can coexist on a PC.

And there's potential form any types of problems, depends on how the original reports were designed, but overall it goes smoothly.

Thanks for your reply synapsevampire.

Can you list me any issues that may arise depending on how the reports were designed, I'll have more of a feel later on this week after ive seen the system and the reports in question.

Thanks again.

I had somewhat major issues converting from 8.5 to XI for reports that were using the Oracle native drivers (not ODBC).

The report links showed up correctly in the Database Expert, but they were totally gone in the SQL. Re-linking the tables did not work - we had to completely recreate the reports. I did find a faster way to do it by creating a new report, selecting the tables, setting up the links, and then copying and pasting from the old report. This set up all of the formulas and kept the field formatting, etc. We had about 150 reports that we had to upgrade this way.

This was only an issue with our reports that use the Oracle db - reports on SQL Server had no problems.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.
