Converting avi's to .ram files

You can convert them to Real format by using Real Producer available from Real's website.
The .ram file itself is just a text file that points to the encoded video file.
There are advantages and disadvantages to using Real. Have a look at using WinMedia9, that seems pretty good.
I'm not a video expert, just dabbled a couple of times.
