We're late in the game upgrading to AD. We're stilla NT4 domain, however our client workstations are Windows 2000 and XP. We are still a few months away going to AD. We have 2 domains. Domain1 and Domain2. Domain2 is going to collapse into domain1. Domain2's profiles are local. Is there tool that will convert a local domain profile to a differnt domain (so domain2\user profile will convert easily to Domain1\user profile)

If you copy the local domain2 profiles to the domain1 server, and then specify their domain1 location in user manager for the domain2 accounts you're moving there, the users should get a roaming profile that's a copy of their current local profile. If you want to revert to local profiles, just remove the roaming profiles in user manager - after user has logged on to pick up their profile.

(if you have all the machines in domain2 started but not logged on to their users, should be easy enough to retrieve all the profiles from one machine).

You don't say how many accounts are involved - you could also use the addusers utility to retrieve user details from domain2 and then edit the csv file to use as input to addusers again to create new users on domain1 (including the roaming profile locations).

If you decide to go for a tool, whatever you do DONT USE Profile Wizard. We tried it for some of our users and it caused problems with their profiles..

I would just copy their current profile over the top of their new profile when you log onto the new domain. Its a bit of a pain and takes a while to do, but its tidier.
