Hello,

I have created a magazine/newsletter in InDesign, and I created using facing 8.5x11 pages.

Now that I am dealing with the printers, I need to convert the document to be done on 11x17 (so that first page would be the back cover on the left, and the front cover on the right, etc)...

Is there a way to automatically do this or do I just need to figure it out and copy and paste my pages accordingly?

And, in the future, is there a way to do this starting from scratch?

Any help is MUCH appriciated!!!!

Thanks,
Diana

The printer is supposed to have imposing software - what's used to make up those properly set up multipage publications. When you do this you have to set up things such as creep values (if the book has enough pages), bleeds for the outer margins, trim marks etc. This is generally the work of the printer.

If your printer does not have such software, you really should find another as he's simply not qualified. I've never even run into a printer who could not impose.

If you really want to get involved with this, there are a few options. If you happened to get ID as part of Creative Suite, see if the package included Pagemaker Plugin pack. It came with my version of CS premium. If you happened to buy ID Pagemaker edition (upgrade form pagemaker), I think that included the plugin pack Adobe used to also sell the Plugin pack for about $50. This includes a very basic imposer (at least the mac version) - InBooklet SE.

ALAP (alp.com) sells a more robust version of InBooklet (mac and pc) for $100. It's an Indesign plugin that will get the job done.

Again, this is not supposed to be the job of the layout shop.
