convert VCR tapes to DVD

I just need to know what I need to contect my vcr to my laptop so that I can copy them to the dvd.
I have a I am using Vista on a new gateway.

If you want to make the process REALLY easy look into Sony's DVDirect stand-alone DVD burner that connects directly to your VCR or other media device.

I used mine to convert a box full of VHS movies to DVD and the time saved paid for the item (it was over $300 when I bought it, a different model). It now lives connected to my multimedia receiver and makes DVDs of TiVo and/or VHS cassettes that friends and relatives bring over. Turn on both devices, press record, press play that's it.

Quality is decent, as good as I was getting from my PC after hours of recoding and copying.

Firebox looks easy, but costs a good $70 more than Tony's idea.

I'll throw a third option on the table that costs the same as Sony's DVDirect but the advantage here is you're using one device instead of two:

If you're really set on using your laptop to save money, then a video capture device is what you'll want (it only costs $90):
