Second post to the forum ... Glad I found you guys. :)

Anytime I convert text to outline in Illustrator 9 (Mac), the resulting paths are blocky. They still look like the original font, but if you look closely (or see them enlarged) the curves have clearly become a series of little straight lines.

I've been trying to work around this, but it limits what I can use Illustrator for. (And since I'm quite new to the program, I'm trying to use it for everything I can!)

Thanks for any help....

hi,

don't bother with the way the converted fonts look like. This is due to the resolution of your screen. It has nothing to do with the quality of the conversion. When printed the result will be just fine

hope this helps

Thanks for the input, grillhouse. :)

Unfortunately, the problem is both screen and print. Screen doesn't matter, of course. But the print-outs are equally blocky. (I'm printing on various printers - postscript printers and through a RIP device, laser and ink jet, Canon, HP, and Xerox.)

Any ideas? :(

whats the font and where did you get it? Only fonts originating in postscript garuntee a clean conversion, truetype arent so bad and most others are awful. Do all fonts outline like this?

Thanks for responding, jAQUAN.

It's happened with serveral fonts over the last few months (ie. the time I've been using AI). I remember it happening with the both the Diotima family and the Present family of fonts (which are postscript, according to Adobe Type Manager's information, and which come as a company bundle).

When I get some downtime, I'll test others.

I don't have the fonts you mention - maybe it's them;
I've been trying out the various fonts on my Mac (in Illustrator 9) - and can't reproduce your problem.
What OS are you using?

in doc setup: try incresing the paths output resolution to 2400
why corvert fonts to out lines if not needed
the only reson to convert would be to bring
fonts over to a mac end or visa versa Greg

You might not have ATM installed correctly, you might not have the printer font on your machine at all (the part of the font that outlines and prints) and are just using the screen font.

the problem is most likely that you are converting a screen font, and not a postcript one. The ATM is also an issue.
