Hello,

Is there a way to convert text to curves within Acrobat?

The problem is, I've recieved a layout as a pdf from a client and I need to get it into Illustrator. I'm missing some of the fonts used and the client is unable to supply them. I'm using Acrobat 5.

Thanks in advance.

You cannot convert text to curves in Acrobat.

The client should have embedded the font(s) in the PDF they supplied you. Then converting to curves will not be necessary. Can you ask the client to convert text to curves within Illustrator before creating the PDF, OR when creating the PDF, embed the fonts?

This may or may not help but if you also have Corel Draw - export your pdf to eps or ps from Acrobat (embedding fonts ps level 1) import that into Draw using postscript interpreted filter, choosing text to curves in the dialogue box. The file should come in with the font shape ok but as curves. Export that from Draw as ai or eps. I know many are not fans of Draw but as a signmaker this alone has made it worth it's money.

Coreldraw is a great program - it's such a pity more people don't use it. One of those stupid situations where one app gains 'industry standard' status and retains it no matter how good other programs are. I think CD suffers from the stigma of being more of a PC-based app, which in today's cross-platform compatibility, should really no longer be an issue.

Eggles, I couldn't aggree with you more, perhaps now Corel has new owners it will start to gain it's rightful place as a serious contender to the established 'industry standards'
