I have a form that has been sent to me to use quarterly. It is a PDF File. Rather than print it and put it in the type writer to complete it, is there a way that I can save it to Word (or somewhere else) and answer the questions directly on the screen?
We just had the same request from our Accounting department for many of the tax forms they have to fill out. Some are word docs, some are pdf's (that are not programmed with form fields). We just purchased ScanSoft's PDF Converter for this very purpose. I have not yet had a chance to try it out, but as soon as I do, I will let you know how well it works! It was only about $40.
Solid Converter did a MUCH better job at preserving the accuracy of data in the conversion. Though it didn't preserve table outlines, it did preserve the layout perfectly and we found VERY few errors, if any. Solid also provided us with parameters to select before we converted a file. Unfortunately, the trial version only allows you to convert 10% of any PDF file.
PDF Converter wasn't as accurate. In one 32 page document, I found several instances where it couldn't handle a bulleted list followed by an image and in one case it even "absorbed" some text above an image into the image itself (a nightmare to fix). It did an ok job with preserving the asthethics of a file, but as far as data accuracy, forget it.
Both products are about the same in price
We've recently purchased 2 copies of Solid Converter.
