I am in the process of building an enterprise reporting solution including CR 8.5 and the CE inclduing RAS for lightweight report design. There is much reuse of formula between reports, so I'd like to take advantage of the new Object Repository feature in CR 9.0.

My issue is, if I have some flexibility in terms of timing, should I hold off building the report and formula library until I can evaluate CR 9.0 and CE 9.0 is available, or will there be any sort of conversion path to CR 9.0 for the formula I create, given that CR 9.0 I will only need to define calcs that I use fairly often only *once* vs per report.

As well, I'd like to create a metalayer on top of the formulas for end users. I know that dictionaries provide such a capability, but not sure if they will exist in CR 9.0 and if my efforts will be wasted, or if they will be transferable. I get mixed responses from Crystal Decisions.

Any thoughts on these issues would be much appreciatied.

I just went through the same analysis and decided NOT to develop using CR 9 until CE 9 is out and stable.

The reusability feature being just part of the advantages 9 offers, the ability to use REAL SQL being the biggest.

Any development I do would be worthless until 2003 as the latest I'd heard from CD was "around XMAS" for CE9.
