The last time we printed a huge catalog, we were still using macs. Do the images need to be converted to a usable IBM format (they are photos and lineart). I know that it can easily be done in Photoshop, but we have a very large quantity of images and it will take a long time to do it. I have tried to print out a few pages as is, and some of the images print ok, but others print with a square and an X in the box. If we do need to convert, any tips on a conversion utility to make this easier??

Thanks in advance!
Michele

mfink, you didn´t tell us the Graphics File Format. EPS or TIFF ?
Is this perhaps the reason for DIFFERENT printing results ?
The square can be the bounding box of an EPS. Preview is OFF,
therefore the "X" . ---- G.Hoffmann

Probably the files with the X are ps-images and saved for mac.
The difference between a Macfile and a Dos-file is the way the file is composed. A Mac file uses two handles to construct the file, dosuses only one.
When an eps is saved as a Mac file it is not lisible in the normal way by aDos machine. Therefore you must translate the files on a Mac machine to a format that is lisible for a dos machine.
There are some converting programs who can do it, but most of the timethere will be some problems, sometimes with the screen information, sometimes with the file handles.
sorry, but the only way is to print out the total file see which items have a cross in it and try to import them in another program. Photoshop can do it, although the parser module sometimes will crash. Ifyou ave Corel Draw on your PC try importing the files in Corel Draw and save them in an appropiriate file format.
