just got a new laptop with of course, Vista. I have a huge website built in Frontpage 2002: doesn't work in Vista. Now I am reading that Publisher is not a great tool. Any suggestions for new program? assuming I have to rebuild the site.

Your title and your question don't necessarily all add up. That could explain why no one has answered. However, likely, I think it's b/c no one hardly even looks at this particular Forum anymore. You'd probably be best suited looking at:

Or if you want to check for sure on getting FrontPage to work in Vista, you might could find help here:

But I'll at least give it a shot.

1. What is your desired outcome? Are you absolutely wanting to keep the same site, with as few changes as possible? Then if you can't get Frontpage 2002 to work, you could get a copy of Frontpage 2003, I'd imagine, or else another application. Example: Adobe DreamWeaver or Microsoft Expression.

2. Depending upon the desired outcome, you could look into totally different areas. For instance, I changed our church's website over to Drupal CMS. Yes, it was a total site rebuild, but there are tutorials, and some tools, out there for converting HTML sites to a Drupal site. But personally, from what I saw, and what I've expereinced with Drupal, I'd suggest just starting over. You could keep the content, of course, via copy/paste for text, and just moving the images to the appropriate locations, etc.

Publisher is not a tool really meant for web design. There are tons of web design apps, with probably Adobe DreamWeaver being THE premier desktop application for such. But with all the CMS setups currently available, I personally think that desktop applications for web development doesn't give you as much benefit as you might think. Of course, you can still use desktop publishing apps along with the CMS tools.

Personally, I really like the whole CMS idea, and particularly like Drupal. Like with anything else, there is a learning curve, but it is possible to get an entire site up and running, the first time even, within a matter of a day or two, especially if you use a web host's built-in web site starter doohickies. I did mine all totally on my own just within the folders on the web site, but many hosts now install packages, where they do all the technical part for you, basically.

Let me know if you want to know anymore along these lines, or have other questions in this discussion.
