Is this at all possible? Can I use mdb created in Access2000 in Access97?

Backup your database before attempting to convert your Access2000 db.
If you open Access 2000, click on 'Tools', then select 'Database Utilities', and 'Convert Database', and then click 'To Prior Access Database Version', you can convert it.
You will loose all your security settings if you do this, so this is why I've never attempted it myself. This is also why I can't tell you what happens after clcking 'OK' on the popup message box...
It should work though...
