Convert Excel 95 xla to xls

We have some very old Excel add-ins that were created in Excel 95. The original spreadsheets that they were created from have been lost in the mists of time but we need to look at the VBA code the add-ins contain.

Unfortunately, you can't just view the contents of Excel 95 add-ins. According to this page "a few simple VBA commands is all it takes to convert an XLA back to its original XLS" but the page's author declines to say what they are.

Does anyone know how to extract the code from these old add-ins? I don't think they are password-protected.

Well, searching on the web, Ivan Moala says this:

Press Alt F11
Press Ctrl R
In the window pane click the
"Thisworkbook" object
Press F4
Scroll down this window until you see
IsAddin
Change the property to False

Now save the workbook as xls

Hi there Glenn, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately that won't work for Excel 95 or earlier add-ins because you are prevented from editing their properties.

However I have just been notified that the people who use the add-ins know what the code does and will just re-create them from scratch as they're fairly simple. Cheers anyway!
