I have a column of names where some have been entered as all CAPITALS, others have been entered as Title Case. I have a two part question...

1. How can I easily convert the capitalized text to Title case (first letter capital only)?

2. Some of the names are cross referenced (e.g. SMITH xx BROWN). Can I make it Smith xx Brown???

I would really appreciate some help. Thanks a million.

Sherry,

Presuming it's an Excel column, you could use the worksheet function PROPER. If the cross-references are all "xx", then follow-up with a search and replace.

IS,

I am a little inexperienced here - could you explain how I would use that?

Thanks,
Sherry

Insert a column to the right of the first column you want to fix. In the cell to the right of your first cell of text, type the following formula, which assumes your first cell of TEXT is in cell A2:

=Proper(a2)

and hit enter.

Copy the formula down. Underlying your new "proper" text is the formula. If you want to keep the "proper" text and ditch the CAPS, then select all the new "proper" text cells and hit Copy. Then, Edit-Paste special-Values. That gets rid of the underlying formulas and you can safely delete the column of CAPS text.

Do that for each column you have.
