how can I do this using crystal forumlas?

If it's a date datatype, just right click on it->format field->date->customize->select month: 03-> day: none-> year: 99->first separator: none-> second separator: none.

If it's not a date, you need to show how the field displays in all its variations.

If it's a date, you could also use
Code:
ToText({Your.Date}, "MMyyMM")
Lots of interesting things you can do with ToText, worth exploring.
