This may loose some formatting, but you could open it with smartsuite millenium and save it as an earlier excel version and then pick it up with Excel. (Or save it as an earlier Lotus version and then import to Excel.)

9.5 and 9.6 versions of millenium can be picked up inexpensively on ebay-probably much cheaper than a conversion program or service.

Are your registry and data backed up?

Having been in exactly the same boat myself today, a colleague found this:
ftp://ftp.lotus.com/pub/lotusweb/product/smartsuite/kvlot32.exe

And downloaded it. Allows .123 files to be viewed, printed and in our case, C&P'ed into an Excel spreadsheet.
