Conversion to ArcView (via AutoCAD .dxf or .dwg)

I am trying to convert a Corel Draw document containing several curves to a format that ArcView can use using Corel Draw's built in Export feature. However, there is a problem with the layer names. The layer names on the original Corel Draw document contain important information, and when converted to .dxf the layer names are lost. Strangely they are not lost for any Rectangles, but are lost for any Curves (doing a "convert to curves" on a Rectangle also causes the layer name to be lost).

If anyone can suggest a solution or workaround for this I would be very greatful.
