I have a client that is replacing ~80 digital phones with J179, SIP phones. Can I convert existing extensions to the new SIP phones somehow without creating all new extensions?

Thanks in advance!

Yes/No (made very awkward by your not saying if the modules providing the digital extension ports are being removed). The software release would be useful too as there's been a lot of small but annoying changes arround SIP extension support recently.

- You can keep the existing 80 user records.

- You would need to create 80 new SIP extension records where the base extension numbers match the user extension numbers.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

I am trying to do whatever I can prior to the upgrade. We will be upgrading the system to R11.0 and the current digital extension modules will be staying. The phones are not supported in R11, which is why we are upgrading all the phones. We have to upgrade the voicemail pro server as well, and a call recording system, all of which cannot be done until the upgrade to R11. And all will not work after we do the upgrade :(. So if I can prep the SIP phones prior to the upgrade that would help a ton.

Sorry for the confusion on my prior post, thanks again for the help.

What model phones, and not supported does not equal won't work

Do the upgrade to R11, change the Base Extension of all of the Digital ports to either blank, or some scheme that doesn't conflict with anything else. As long as you don't reboot, the digital phones will continue to function with the Users that were logged on before changing the base extension numbers. Create the SIP extensions with base extensions that match the users. At each workstation, connect the SIP phone, and when you register it tot he system with the User extension number and phone password, the digital phone go to No User, the SIP phone is up and running.

Thanks I will give that a try.

(FYI the digital phones that are being replaced are mostly 5410's.)

Not tried it myself but I am told that 5410 will work on R11 but not supported.

Not sure if there is any advantage to using J179s.
