I have a client who is considering changing his switch to a BCM 450. They currently have a BCM 50. My questions is can I reuse the existing sets(T series & M series)? Can i reuse some of the existing hardware(i.e. station module, T1 module & trunk modules)? We also have 32 ip licenses on the existing switch, can I transfer those to the BCM 450 or repurchase the ip licenses?

Thanks,
Robert

You may hurry up as it stops shortly.
BCM450 is a complete new chassis, hardware , hard drive. Manual reprograme

you can use the modules.
you can use the phones
you will need a migration key code to transfer the licences.

It's a 450 key code that allows you to migrate the licence from a bcm1000,200,400
To your new bcm450 systemID

That way you keep all the licences you had on your old system.

and you have to return the old hardware to Avaya , if it a bcm200/400 you return only the MSC if it is BCM50 you return the chassis.
Along with migration keycode you get a Unified Messaging keycode for the system as it is needed for the callpilot migration proccess.

Have you looked into the UCx450 From E-MetroTel? It's the Nortel alumni's version of the BCM 450 and will allow you to do everything the BCM did and more, down to keeping 80 percent of all the feature codes such as Feature *6, Feature 70, etc. I have a BCM50 side by side to my UCx50, and the amount of features that I am able to do on the UCx, makes the UCx seem more like a CS1000 than a BCM, all with an easy to use web based GUI interface. Just my recommendation.

Is there anything that the E-Metro "BCM 50" can't do that the BCM 50 can such as still being able to use the 4 BRI or 4 analogue trunks and 4 analogue extensions etc. I thought that the earlier versions didn't support it as they only wanted to use SIP trunks etc.

I did hear that the BCM 50 version was very expensive?.

Well I would call them for direct pricing, but I've been pricing out some UC20s and UCx50s and the pricing seems quite affordable, especially when someone wants to continue in the Nortel world. I don't know where Trebor 18 is getting the BCM450, it might be very affordable if it's a refurbished unit. You can now use PRI/BRI and Analog trunking now on the UCx, it's a simple card insert into the unit. Here are all trunks supported:

Traditional Trunk Slot
4 or 8 Port FXO Card
1, 2 Span PRI/BRI/T1/E1/R2MFC Card
4-span PRI
GSM Trunking
SIP Trunking
IAX Trunking

Any other questions I can answer?

Thanks Joseph

I'm guessing that if you currently have a BCM 50 or 450 system etc, that it's just a case of doing a backup and swapping out the hard disk from the BCM version to the newer UCX one and doing a restore from your backup?.

Do you still do the programming via a browser or by a tool such as EM etc?.

Hey David,

You'd simply switch out the hard disk from the existing BCM50 or BCM450 with a new one. I don't believe you can backup your BCM and restore it exactly as is, yet at least. There are so many new features that the BCM doesn't have, that are added to the platform once you put in a new hard drive. Mr. ucxguy, if you are reading, can you clarify the exact process it takes to convert?

You would actually program the system with a much a faster browser based web GUI interface. No more having to worry that you have the latest java script to run the Element Manager. It also runs a lot faster than trolling through the element manager on my BCM50 6.0.

All I know, is that my BCM went from acting like a Norstar styled IP system to a feature rich CS1000 style switch, once I upgraded to the UCx.
