Hi everyone:

I am trying to build a menu with a collection of rollover buttons. I want the rollover effect; but when the mouse is released on a button, I want the button to stay on the "Over" state and not go back to the "Up" state. When a different button is pressed, the button in the "Over" state should go back to the "Up" state and the newly released button should remain in the "Over" state" etc. How can I achieve this?

If it is easier to have a new static frame of the over state, that'll be fine; as long as the position of the buttons remain static.

Your help is much appreciated.

Are all your buttons alike and have a similar look? Different text? A link to see what they look like?

Hi Oldnewbie:

Yes, all the buttons look similar with different text as caption for each botton. The buttons are not done yet, I tried it on a regular rollover and got stuck.

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Different text complicates things a little, unless concept wise you'd accept only changing the buttons' borders or at least the whole of them but the text area.
In that case, simply create a new 1 frame movie clip with the common "over" state of your buttons. This clip (set to be invisible to start with) is then set on stage exactly over one of your buttons. On the release of one of these buttons, the clip is then made visible and moved to the coordinates of the button that was pressed. When another button is pressed and released, the movie clip (now visible)is moved to that button's coordinates, creating the illusion that this button is still selected until another one actually is selected.

If you want to include text, then you'd should have as many frames in this movie clip as your number of buttons. The clip on top of being moved to the coordinates, also has to be directed to the proper frame, corresponding to the button that was pressed.

This clear?
