I have IE 6.0, SP1 on Win2K, SP4. How can I get IE to print just the frame I want? When I click print and go to the options tab of the print window, the choices in the "print frames" area of that window are greyed out with "all frames individually" being the option selected. However, when I actually print, the actual printout looks like it is printed as laid out on the screen. This means that if the page has a column of something on the left with a frame of text to the right, I often get the text cut off when I print. How can I control what is printed?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

First, are you sure what you're looking at is actually HTML frames? If it is, and I'm following correctly, click the mouse somewhere in the text frame that you want before trying to print. That should do what you want.

FWIW, the same thing applies to using the 'Find' function of IE when frames are concerned- you may need to click inside the frame to be searched before starting the search.

Thanks for your reply, but I had already thought of that and tried it without success. Also, the properties of the page list the type as HTML document.

I understand that it's HTML; but does the document actually contain frames. A web page can be created with tables and that's not the same as frames.

Rather than click the little printer icon, click File, Print Preview.

This would allow scaling the image so that you can get an appropriate fit.

smah's point is perfectly valid: it is up to the web designer how much (or little) print template information is provided the viewer. If the frames are greyed-out under print, options, there is nothing you can do to change matters.

A good discussion of print templates for web page design can be found here:
