Controlling group headers manually

I'm a CR newbie, so bear with me plse!

I am using CRv9 and a Pervasive (Btrieve) database with transaction data.
I am reporting hours used by Date/Op code/Works Order/Employee (4 levels of grouping, Employee being major)
I am reporting hours worked using a parameter date range for the last week/month.

I wrote a report using the report wizard and it looks good, except I need to report brought forward figures to show hours expended to date against these group levels.

I managed to do this using subtotals and manual totaling, but my report is losing its group headings.

I deduce this is because the report is processing records now with like keys to get the history data, and when reporting the selected dates it doesn't have a key change to activate the group headers.

My question is how do I take the control for printing Group headers away from CR so that I can do this function manually and how would I actually do that?
This would allow me to have a complete set of group headers printed for each set of groups.
