I have a RH Ent Linux Server 5.1. I had to install a specialized application that comes with an inbuilt web server. The application runs on port 80.
This server also has apache server running on port 8080. I cannot un-install apache, but I want to close access to port 8080 on the firewall.

In the server firewall, if I close http ( it closes the application I am running on port 80 which I do not want. Under other ports, I tried to see if port 8080 open, but I did not see it listed there. Among other things, I saw appserv-http open. Is this what I should close to deny access to port 8080 AND to allow access would I just add TCP appserv-http again??

If I wanted the application to use https and not http, create/assign certs, where/how can I control that?? Might sound stupid, but I could not find the interface to the inbuilt web server.

I tried using lokkit, but that could not help me either.
Please advice.
Thanks.

Why not simply stop the Apache service that is listening on port 8080? It should be defined in the httpd.conf or one of its includes.

If you want to restrict ports at the OS level read about iptables.

https uses port 443. Similarly you can turn on and off Apache's use of this port in the httpd.conf.

Annihilannic.

Thanks for the info. I guess I could always do that. But I think I will check on iptables first.
