Control Unit With R7 & SD Card With R9

We have a running IPO 500 v2 with R7 and want to upgrade to R9. Already we have the R9 Essetinal Edition License loaded on a new SD Card. Is there a way to replace the old SD Card only and upgrade without having to purchase any upgrade license?

No you need to upgrade license because the chassis knows that it needs one.

I think to replace the old Version 7 SD card with the new Version 9 SD card you the essential Edition license and do the update from the manager.

Make an updated version of 7 to 9 with the old card.

Nope, you must purchase either the R9 Upgrade LIC, or purchase a new control unit. The unit has in its memory that it was born in R7, it will require an upgrade lic as soon as it boots back up in R9 even if you upgrade the SD card with a reader.
