Running MS Word 2k Standard, viewed from within IE 5 on a 98 client machine. When doc files are opened, they show the Control Toolbox (full toolbar). There's no way I see to be able to kill it either. I tried reomving it, docking and removing it, all the other standard methods don't seem to work. It only appears on the one machine too, other machines show it okay.

Any help, greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Spiggsy !

Suggestion - (don't have word 2k), does the doc have macros in it? I can only imagine that is triggering this event.

Perhaps the rogue machine has different security settings to the others - maybe they ignore the macros, and the one with the problem doesn't.

Or heaven forbid, the doc has a macro virus.

Not so much a macro virus, but it certainly sounds like somehow a document.open event got put into your normal.dot file.

Should be easy. Just close Word. Find the file called normal.dot and rename it to abnormal.dot.

If that works, great. If you're going to lose other settings, do it anyway. Then lemme know, and we'll go through how to copy them over from the old one.

Sorry chaps, snake eyes on that !!
None of them worked at all.

Cheers anyways,

I think I'll check the office set up, something odd really.

All have a good Easter/Weekend,

Hey, spiggs. Oh, ye of little faith.

Check the Word startup folder. Make sure there's nothing in there--and make sure you're seeing hidden files too.

I've written a complete FAQ on Word, which I forgot all about putting the startup folder in! and I was writing all this because of you in the first place LOL so, I've got to fix it the second they publish it... anyway. Check that. If that doesn't work, take a good look at my FAQ when it gets posted on troubleshooting Word 97 & 2K.

It's got the registry edit that might fix you up.
