Is it possible to change the icon for the individual printers within the control panel ->printers folder?

control panel

1 2 3

I have 3 printers installed, and would like to have a different icon for each printer, one for the Laser,
one for the dot matrix and one for the Ink Jet.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}
DefaultIcon C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\shell32.dll,-138

Sets the default icon for all printers, is the any way to set the individual icons for the individual printers ?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Here's an ugly work around. Create shortcuts for each printer. Change the icons. Put the icons in a file and then add the file to the start menu. Mike

You're right. The registry uses default icons globally.

A slight workaround to the approach of mbarron:

1. Drag the printer icons from control panel/printers folder to the taskbar.

2. Once they are there, right click the shortcut....Properties....then change their icons individually browsing to any available folders that have icons you preferred.

Hope this helps... ERA
