Our GAL is made up of 7 recipient containers. I have created another container called Test Mailboxes for, you guessed it, test mailboxes.

However, these mailboxes are now also appearing in the GAL.

Is there any way to stop this container being included in the GAL? Oh and I'd rather not hide these mailboxes as a workaround.

Many Thanks

No. You could use address book views, but this seems like overkill for your purposes. How about beginning the Display Name with a . so that they all sort to the top of the GAL, out of the normal alphabetic range?

What are your reasons for prefering that they not be hidden?

I was going to say that we'd prefer them not to be hidden so that we can log onto the mailbox directly so as to test sending external smtp messages from each of the four servers. Unhiding a mailbox takes a while vefore it's "known" to all servers.
Having said that I just logged onto the mailbox and it didn't have a problem even though it's hidden. Must be a problem when setting up new profiles.
My mistake. Thanks for replying anyway.

You can't resolve a Display Name when the mailbox is hidden, so that's why you're having problems creating a profile to access a hidden mailbox. But if you create your profile when it's visible, you can then hide the mailbox and the profile will still work.

You can even create a profile for a hidden mailbox, so long as you know its ODN (Object Distinguished Name), as this will always resolve regardless of whether or not the mailbox is hidden. The ODN is in the form of /o=orgname/ou=sitename/cn=recipientscontainer/cn=directoryname - you need the directory names of each of the 4 components, not the display name (it might be the same, but not necessarily).
