Hi Guys

I have a LAN which is mostly Wireless - guests arrive and can access the internet - uncontrolled.

As there are dozens of Wireless Access Points we dont want to use WEP or WPA encyrption, but were wondering of there a way of controlling the IP address dished out by DHCP.

Maybe a system that asks for a username and password and then gives an IP address to allow internet access.

Is there any software we can put a Windows machine to manage that maybe - any thoughs please

Regards

I think what you need is a "captive portal"
This is the same kind of software used by commercial wireless access providers.
Basicly you get an ip address from you DHCP. However when you try to access the internet through your browser you have to pass trough the portal. This portal ask for usernam/password and if correct allows any further access... (till a configurable time-out)
The server running the captive portal becomes your default gateway for internet access and and opens the access for an ip if authentication was OK

These solutions commonly run on Linux, serveral are available, the one I once used was
