Contivity 1750 VPN Router Rule Definition Tool

I have been assigned the duty to program the Nortel Contivity 1750 VPN router. I was going through the tunnel guard configuration and rule configuration options under the Firewall/NAT menu. It shows up the processes running on my computer. I can add new software definitions and new tunnel guard rules. I cannot figure out how to use these software definitions and tunnel rules and what is the advantage of using them? If anyone has experience working on this router, please suggest me some resources for help. It will be highly appreciated.
